  • CBT is a psychotherapy modality that focuses on the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The idea is that how we think affects how we feel, which affects how we act—and vice versa. By identifying unhelpful or distorted thoughts, one can change emotional responses and behaviors

Grounding Root Therapy uses CBT as a powerful component of its therapeutic work. We combine its structured, evidence‑based methods (identifying and reframing thoughts, changing behaviors, skill building, homework) with mindfulness, holistic awareness (body, spirit, emotions), and meaning‑centered work. The result is a style of CBT that is not purely “cognitive restructuring” but one that is grounded, integrative, and aligned with clients’ whole selves.

  • DBT(developed by Marsha Linehan) is an evidence‑based therapy, originally created to help people with borderline personality disorder (BPD), especially around issues like emotional instability, self‑harm, suicidal thinking, intense interpersonal conflict, and chronically dysregulated affect. But over time it’s been adapted for many other populations and issues (anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, etc.).

The core idea of DBT is balancing acceptance and change. On the one hand, you validate how things are (emotionally, historically, person’s experience); on the other hand, you help the person develop skills to change what is not working and move toward a life worth living.

  • Often referred to as "Psychological acupressure", the technique works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. These blockages in our energy system, in addition to challenging us emotionally, often lead to limiting beliefs and behaviors and an inability to live life harmoniously. Resulting symptoms are either emotional and/ or physical and include lack of confidence and self esteem, feeling stuck, anxious or depressed, or the emergence of compulsive and addictive behaviors. EFT has been used to treat trauma, PTSD and other mood disorders. EFT treatment involves the use of fingertips rather than needles to tap on the end points of energy meridians that are situated just beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment is non-invasive and works on making change as simple and as pain free as possible.

  • Using mindfulness to help regulate stress, to bring awareness to present sensations (bodily, emotional) rather than being overwhelmed by memories or flashbacks. Grounding techniques can help when you feel dissociated or triggered.

  • What the Gottman Method Is

The Gottman Method is a well‑researched approach to couples therapy, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. Some of its core features:

    • Based on decades of observational research with many couples, studying what makes relationships thrive vs what causes breakdown.

    • Focuses on helping couples build friendship, resolve conflict more constructively, deepen intimacy, trust, and create shared meaning.

    • Uses a framework often referred to as the Sound Relationship House, which includes components like building Love Maps, sharing fondness & admiration, turning toward instead of away, managing conflict, making life dreams come true, creating shared meaning, trust & commitment.
